Posted March 29, 2019 11:21:12 AUSTIN, Texas — Salt Marching is the American tradition that began in 1892 with a march to protest the federal prohibition of salt.
Now in its third century, the march has grown to include hundreds of thousands of people each year in more than 50 countries around the world, with thousands more in the works.
Now it is in its ninth year.
The Salt March is an event in which thousands of men and women gather to march in an effort to honor the salt that is part of American history and heritage.
It is the largest and most inclusive of the March of Dimes, a national march organized in 1916 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the United States Mint’s dedication to salt.
The salt march began in Texas in 1896 with a local group of salt merchants who wanted to raise funds to help fund a salt-producing factory that would provide the industry with its salt for its coinage.
The march took place in the early 1900s on the banks of the Rio Grande, near where the Rio Tinto coal mine and railroad bridge is located.
The event attracted a large number of men, women and children from around the country, who all marched together in the streets.
