The National Hockey League has a history of creating a team to represent the sport’s newest generation.
The Los Angeles Kings, with the best record in the NHL in 2017-18, are the first team to do so since the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in 1968.
However, the team has been out of the playoffs for two years, and the team’s most recent success came with a run to the Stanley Final in the 2016-17 season.
The Los Angeles Lakers won the 2017 NBA Finals, but they have not been in the playoffs since then.
In addition, the Minnesota Wild have won the Presidents’ Trophy five times, but have never made the playoffs.
The Anaheim Ducks, the league’s top seed in the Pacific Division, have won five consecutive Stanley Cups.
Dallas Stars’ Ryan Getzlaf is the NHL record holder for goals in a season (1,872), but the team lost to the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2017 Western Conference finals in a Game 7 that the Ducks won by a score of 4-2.
Despite being in the final year of the three-year deal they signed with the team, the Dallas Stars are the only NHL team to win five consecutive playoff series.
